Who’s Visiting Your Blog
For some of us we often spend days agonising over what to post about or hours trying to type out the perfect post that will not only get picked up by those searching but will also keep them informed or entertained. The thing is that unless we have some sort of stat counter we really don’t know whose been visiting.
I like to know for a few different reasons:
1) It helps me to know what type of information my readers are looking for, and
2) When possible I like to try and return the favour and visit their site or blog (it’s a great way to meet new people who usually share the same interest as you)
There’s a few ways you can keep track of who is visiting - as you can see to the left of screen I have a little widget that keeps track of the latest visitors, and when people comment on my blog(s) and leave a url I check it out their site. I also like to visit those who link to me.
Then too you can often keep track of your stats through your blog hosting control panel (Awstats is a cool one) while you can’t personally interact with your visitors it does tell you what they searched for to find your blog or which site refferred them etc.
Then too are places like statcounter.com and sitemeter.com these are both pretty good though I prefer statcounter. Both are free to join and use and it’s simply a matter of filling in the details of your blog and then adding the code to either your sidebar or widget etc.
These too will give you an idea of how many visitors you’ve had, who referred you and how long they stayed and what pages they checked out etc. These stats are handy to know when it comes to what type of post appeals to your readers and what type of keywords or phrases are best for search engines etc.
For me knowing who is visiting or that I’m at least getting visitors makes all those hours of thinking worth it ![]()
