Backing Up Your Blog

Having just suffered a major computer problem it reminded me of a need to backup your blog(s) (as well as every other important piece of information you have on your computer :-) )

If you’ve spent days, months or even years developing your blog thre’s nothing worse than having a major (or in some cases even a minor) castarophe which leads to you loosing your whole blog, your template or posts etc.

There’s several ways you can back your blog up and you should do this on a regular basis.

Wordpress has a plugin that enables you to have a back up of your blog sent to your email or saved within your database files etc. If you’d like to know more about this there’s a video you can watch: Wordpress Backup Plugin

If you use blogger you can follow along with this tutorial: Back Up Your Blogger Blog

There are also sites that will save your blog backups online for you; I don’t know much about these but here’s one if you’re interested: BlogBackupOnline

Or depending on your hosting you can do it through your control panel:

First thing you’ll want to do is create a folder that’s easy to find on your desktop

Then log into your cpanel and click on backups

You’ll see Download A MYSQL Database Backup and underneath that will be a link to your blog(s)

Right click on the link to the blog you want to back up and click save as

Save the .zip file to the folder you created on your desktop.

Repeat for any other blogs you may have

Each time you do this you can just overwrite your previous backup

Using a cron in your cpanel you can also set this to be done automatically everyday

If you liked this post you can buy me a coffee :-)
